In developing this portfolio, I've discovered what a difficult task it is to create a compelling visual interpretation of a narrative from beginning to end. For me the greatest challenge is in determining how to compliment / enhance the psychology of the story, rather than settling for a literal translation. Choices of colour, media, and composition are crucial, and exploring the possibilities is a fascinating exercise. I believe that a good picture book operates on multiple levels and should be as engaging an experience for adults as it is for children. The successful pairing of a quality text with quality illustrations is in itself an art form that deserves great respect, and is a tradition to be treasured.
The latest addition to my website (New Work) is a set of illustrations for the the classic children's story Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen.
